KIRSTY DUNLOP
MY DESIGN PORTFOLIO
HI! I'M KIRSTY
I am a soon-to-be graduate in TV and Film Set Design at the University of South Wales and a proud RTS Bursary Scholar, supported by Apple TV+. Passionate about the Art Department, I strive to further advance in this sector, helping bring creative visions to life through a diverse skill set that includes draughting, model making, and concept art etc.
I approach every project with enthusiasm, adaptability, and a strong willingness to learn. I am eager to gain hands-on experience in a professional setting and push myself further to contribute to larger-scale productions, collaborate with inspiring creatives, and be part of a dynamic industry community.
CURRENT ONGOING PROJECT...
FINAL MAJOR PROJECT STILL IN PROGRESS - BOOK TO SCREEN ADAPTION
This project involves adapting Xiran Jay Zhao’s novel Heavenly Tyrant into a screen format, bringing its rich sci-fi and political fantasy elements to life through a compelling visual narrative. A key focus is the reimagining of the Gao Palace—envisioned as a traditional Chinese palace nestled within the mountains, dramatically constructed amid the wreckage of a fallen, decommissioned Chrysalis. Once a powerful mech used in China’s battles against the alien invaders known as the Hunduns, the Chrysalis now serves as both a monumental backdrop and a symbol of the empire’s complex legacy.
MODELS
CRYSTAL MAZE
Designed a futuristic, decontaminated zone for The Crystal Maze, inspired by an underground world affected by radiation and pollution. The set featured industrial elements, a monorail, and ventilation systems, with six lockable game rooms visible via cameras. It included three themed entrances/exits and accommodated handheld and steady cams for filming physical, mental, and skill-based games. The design was scaled to 1:50 and modeled for Pinewood's C stage.
CONFUSION OF PRINCES BOOK ADAPTATION
Adapted a scene from Confusion of Princes into a set for a university project. Reimagined as a scorching desert world, the spaceship junkyard became a community of vessel-dwelling survivors trading salvaged trash to avoid execution by the "death master." The design featured elevated, robotic-legged vessels housing humans and Shubians
APOCALYPTIC ABANDONED PLATFORM SHELTER
Created a multifunctional space depicting a world where mankind built to survive, overtaken by nature. The model, made entirely from household trash like cardboard, wires, and bottle caps, was finished with paint and diorama foliage to evoke an atmosphere of overgrowth and abandonment.
CANTERVILLE GHOST SET DESIGN
For this university project, I used the architecture and real-life measurements of Corsham Court to design an interior space for a selected scene from the Canterville Ghost tale, aligning it with the 16th-century period in which the story is set. I produced a scrap model, storyboards, a scaled model, technical drawings, and sketches.
AN AUDIENCE WITH... ROSE
Designed a production scheme for An Audience with…, inspired by Rosé from RuPaul's Drag Race. The set featured three performance spaces, an interview area, and intimate audience seating, tailored to Rosé's style and branding. It included technical considerations for cameras, performer entrances, and guest access.

BRIT AWARDS 2025
Designed a Brit Awards set inspired by Neave Brown's social housing architecture, blending bold forms with urban textures. The stage featured dynamic performance areas, integrated lighting, a green room and a visually striking backdrop to celebrate creativity. The design emphasized functionality and aesthetic impact, tailored to the grandeur of the event. This model was made in Blender software and adapted in photoshop.

VISUALS FROM SMALLER PROJECTS
This collection of visual drawings showcases a variety of concepts from smaller projects, each exploring different styles, techniques, and creative ideas. These sketches represent my process of experimentation and problem-solving, capturing moments of inspiration and offering a glimpse into the development of larger design works.

2022 FINAL MAJOR PROJECT - PROP DESIGN
For my college Final Major Project, I designed a throne inspired by Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology, translating Balder’s story into a symbolic prop. The throne depicts the struggle between life and death, with a hand guiding Balder toward light while corpses pull him down. Its design transitions from dark to light tones, features mistletoe—the plant that killed him—and a crumbling left side to emphasize this duality.
BOX PROP PROJECT
Transformed a plain wooden box into a storytelling prop inspired by Arrow. Designed as something Oliver Queen might craft on the island, it featured natural materials and contained items like an arrowhead, a hozen-engraved arrow, a photo of Laurel, a bottle of healing yarrow, a pocketknife, and pages from his father’s notebook.
